Board Member Spotlight: Jon Lanphier, Vice President
Jon Lanphier – Vice President, Sleeping Bear Gateways Council
Jon and his wife, Laura, of 37 years, also live on the east side of Glen Lake, less than a mile from where their family home was built in 1928. Jon and Laura met up here and have been together ever since. They have 3 children and one grandchild.
Jon graduated from Indiana University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Business and began his career with Amoco Oil Company. While at Amoco, he earned his MBA from the University of Chicago. During his tenure, Jon held a variety of leadership roles across Marketing, Treasury (M&As), and ultimately managed the company’s national Convenience Store purchasing business.
In 2002, with support from BP, Jon led a leveraged buyout of Amoco’s purchasing division for convenience stores, founding Red Crown Marketing. Five years later, BP acquired the Red Crown trademark, and the company renamed itself to Consolidated Buying Company (CBC). Under Jon’s leadership as CEO and Chairman of the Board, CBC expanded into the Transportation, Automotive Parts, and Health Care industries. Jon retired in 2020 but continues to serve as Chairman of the Board.
Since moving to Glen Lake, Jon has become an active leader with the Sleeping Bear Gateways Council, focusing his time and energy on addressing the region’s attainable workforce housing challenges.
