Thriving Communities Don’t Happen By Accident.

Every conversation, every workshop, and every donation brings us closer to a region where essential workers can afford to live in the communities they serve.

Since the beginning, the Sleeping Bear Gateways Council has focused on long-term solutions that protect and strengthen our gateway communities. That work is not theoretical. It is happening right now, and it is making a difference.

Progress Starts With Partnership

Through regional housing workshops, SBGC has brought together local leaders, developers, school officials, and nonprofit organizations. These conversations are generating momentum. We are identifying shared challenges, exploring practical zoning solutions, and turning attainable housing concepts into actionable plans.

From fire chiefs to road commission leaders to healthcare executives, more people are joining the conversation—and that collaboration is what moves our work forward..

Looking Ahead to 2025 and Beyond

In the year ahead, we are committed to:

  • Pursuing new development opportunities that align with local workforce needs and protect the character of our communities
  • Expanding our volunteer network with experts in land use, planning, grant writing, and real estate law
  • Advancing long-term housing models like Community Land Trusts
  • Ensuring that the people most affected by the housing crisis have a voice in shaping the solutions

This momentum is real, and we want you to be part of it.

This Is Where You Come In

The need for attainable housing is urgent. Essential professionals—nurses, caregivers, EMTs, teachers, and tradespeople—are driving up to 65 miles each way just to serve our region. Without safe, affordable homes nearby, we risk losing the very people who care for us, protect us, and keep daily life running.

Our region has always been shaped by those who stayed, gave back, and supported what matters. This is one of those moments. It is our turn to invest in the future of the communities we love.

Your donation is a direct investment in local projects that support housing access, land use planning, and long-term sustainability. Whether you give $25 or $2,500, every contribution helps us take the next step.
